GREEN YOUR PERIOD special event: We are featuring a series of reusable menstrual products for review and giveaway. Go green, no matter what time of the month!
MotherMoonPads is offering our readers a giveaway of
a cloth menstrual pad prize pack, a value of $26.75.
The pack includes
two 10" Normal Pads and one 12.5" Ultimate Overnight/Postpartum Pad.
Postpartum mama cloth
I switched to cloth menstrual pads awhile ago. So when I was pregnant and considering what I was going to do for the postpartum period, I realized I didn't like the idea of going back to the bulky, crinkly, smelly disposables I remembered from my last time postpartum. Plus, cloth pads could be reused for overnights during future periods, or for any other birth.
But could cloth pads really stand up to the demands of postpartum bleeding? I was happy to test out a few brands and try it out!
I was really excited when Denelle of MotherMoonPads contacted me to do a review, because she usually doesn't do blog giveaways. I was really hoping to have some postpartum pads to test out, and her pads looked like a gorgeous, perfect fit!
MotherMoonPads sent me two 12.5" Ultimate Overnight/Postpartum Pads and one regular 12" Postpartum Pad for review. I realize the prize pack is different, because Denelle and I decided you might want more of a mix in your selection, so the winner will receive two Normal Pads and one of the Ultimate Overnight/Postpartum Pads. Since I was pregnant then and not going to have my cycles back anytime soon (crossing fingers), I knew postpartum pads were all I could safely pledge to review!

My pads came lovingly wrapped. I was so excited to lay them into my birthing kit so they'd be ready.

Knickernappies and
Fluff Envy are offering Hobo Mama readers a giveaway of a
Stackable Menstrual Pad Set! This Knickernappies cloth pad set is made of a waterproof fleece shell with two absorbent microfiber and velour liners, and is a reusable, eco-friendly solution to your period.

I love the Stackable Mama Pads. They're a
unique 3-in-1 system that will fit absorbency needs from pantiliner to regular pad to heavy flow. That way, you can adjust the absorbency throughout your menstrual cycle without having to buy several different pad sizes.
My favorite aspect of the stackable design is that
you can reuse the shell throughout the day as long as it doesn't get soiled,
just swapping out the pad liners as you need them replaced. That means you need only a few shells for your whole cycle, and you can buy extra pads (liners) separately.
One smaller liner works well for light flow. One larger liner is comparable to a standard pad. Snapping on both liners at the same time provides coverage for heavy flow.

A big congratulations to the winner of the

Knickernappies innovations

I love the idea of the Stackable Mama Pads. They're a
unique 3-in-1 system that will fit absorbency needs from pantiliner to regular pad to heavy flow.
The shells and liners are consistently the same sizes so
any future shells or liners you buy will fit any other set.
The outer shell is very thin, waterproof fleece. The larger pads are made from microfiber, hemp, and cotton/poly velour (76% combed cotton/24% polyester — the polyester is used on the backside as a stabilizer). The smaller pads are microfiber and velour. The soft velour sits against the skin, and the workhorse microfiber is highly absorbent.
The shell with the pad(s) snaps up into a little bundle so you can toss it in a bag or even your pocket (it would be a little bulky there, though!) and take it with you. I doubt anyone would know what it was (unless they actually did know what it was — in which case, they'd just be applauding you for being so dang cool and environmental).
My experiences

Knickernappies set laid out: small pad, large pad, shell. Everything snaps together, and the wings snap under your undies.

GladRags sent me the same sampler 3-pack for review. I had been using
The DivaCup but disposable pads and pantyliners as backup, and I was eager to try out cloth alternatives.
Switching to cloth
I'm honestly not sure what took me so long. I cloth diapered my son and preferred cloth training pants for him as well — the times we used disposables on trips or in preschool, I had always been struck by how much less comfortable they were, and how they made him more prone to irritation since they were less breathable. But it took me awhile to make the leap to the idea that cloth for
myself might be more comfortable, too!
